When you intend your braces soured they'll definitely put a permanent retainer on your lowermost teeth. For the top you'll either just intend a retainer or they'll put a permanent one in.

totally permanent. I had braces for about 2 years and now my teeth are exactly how they were set so daylong ago I'm nearly 30

it commonly takes about 2 years for your teeth to straighten. 18 - 24 months. It is supposed to be for life, still you have to dress a retainer. Some people don't dress them like they are supposed to and the dentist module recommend they get them again.
