Will the unfathomable pockets start to modify up with paper again after stopping 24 years of smoking? My husband quit 3 wks ago. He is 48, been smoking since 24.

The damage Caused by this is not reversible, but it can be further prevented with flossing, periodint scaling and root planning. Not flossing is most likely what caused this, but halt of smoking will definitely help. If you really want to support your husband get him to start flossing daily up into the gums and acquire him a Waterpik irrigator. The bone that was lost can only be restored through augmentation. The gums will begin to tighten which could support minimally decrease pocket depth but not drastically. Depending on the depth of the pockets root planning haw not be effective. In severe cases such as this a preoperative approach haw need to be utilised to reduce the depth by something such as a gingivectomy.
