Hi It depends on what level of damage your doctors hit said you have. if it is only a 1st or 2nd honor sprain, ie you can advise it but it hurts, then they won't put a cast on it. They will possibly consider a cast if it's a 3rd honor sprain. This is when the ligaments completely rupture, and you hit no function of the ankle. So you can't physically advise it, and it has nothing to do with the discompose fastening you. This is because the ligaments are what helps keep your ankle stable and allows you to advise it. If they snap, then you hit no support and no artefact of moving it. Sprained ankles are not fun. I was on crutches for 6 weeks when i did mine. I fell soured a curb and pronounceable it. Was agony, so I feel for you. Hope you recover soon
