Oh hon, if she's sure she didn't bump it and it just appeared there tell her to gratify go to the student as presently as she can. It looks like something my aunt had and it had to do with her veins, it's not life threatening but it needs scrutiny attention..good luck

Sharp pain or stinging? Could easily be a varicosity that gave loose, as in vericose vein. If it gets larger, she needs to be seen. Can draw a line around the edges to monitor its size. Any swelling or redness of surrounding tissues, should be seen as well.
