My son got his prototypal tattoo down the side of his rib cage just like you're speaking of. Let's just say that every tattoo he got after that was nothing, according to him. He said it was pretty brutal.

IF you are skinny it module hurt more because there is not much between the bone and the skin IF You are heavier then it module not hurt as bad because a tattoo in the bonny Atlantic hurts. I would say a 7 or 8 in the pain gauge.

I got a tattoo on my ribs most 2 years ago. I have multiple tattoos including on crowning of my foot. The ribs would be the worst!!! On a scale from 1-10 I would give it a 12. Good luck!
